Today, humanoid robot OEMs are facing one central challenge: How do they bridge the gap between a working prototype and a manufacturable, scalable product? according to Kollmorgen.

While software iterates in weeks, motion hardware moves from paper to functional sample in months and to volume production in years. That mismatch—not concept design—is often the real bottleneck. At RoboBusiness, which will be on Oct. 20 to 21 in Santa Clara, Calif., Yoshi Umeno, the global director of business development for robotics at Kollmorgen, will give a talk about this topic.

Umeno’s session, “A Joint-by-Joint Guide to Humanoid Motion,” will take place at 11:30 a.m. PT on the first day of the show.

Yoshi Umeno.By reframing humanoid motion as a zone-by-zone architecture problem rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Umeno will outline the unique demands of each body zone and the challenges of scaling for production. He will also provide a practical framework for evaluating motion partners, highlighting comprehensive solutions and co-engineering support to simplify the path from prototype to volume production.

Umeno is the global director of business development for robotics at Kollmorgen, a brand of Regal Rexnord, with a dedicated focus on humanoid robotics. He brings a deep understanding of motion control for humanoids, spanning actuators, motors, drives, precision components, and system-level performance. Umeno also has extensive experience servicing and partnering with leading humanoid OEMs globally.
