Intuitive Surgical GM Iman Jeddi to share at RoboBusiness how the company keeps innovating

By The Robot Report Staff | August 20, 2025

The da Vinci system has defined surgical robotics for more than two decades—but staying at the top requires more than iteration. Intuitive Surgical recently demonstrated a 4,000-mi. telesurgery with its da Vinci 5 and obtained CE mark for the surgical robot. In an exclusive interview at RoboBusiness 2025, Iman Jeddi, Ph.D., senior vice president and general manager of Intuitive’s multiport platform, will offer a rare look inside the redesign and launch of the da Vinci 5, the company‘s next-generation surgical robotics system.

With da Vinci 5, Intuitive focused on implementing foundational computing power to unlock a new generation of capabilities—from force feedback and advanced instruments to machine vision that powers the surgeon’s interface and delivers deeper case insights.

How does a market leader rethink its flagship system in a competitive, maturing space? And how do you design not just for the present, but for the future of digital surgery? Jeddi’s conversation will be about discipline, platform thinking, and staying ahead in a field that’s quickly catching up.

Her keynote talk will close RoboBusiness on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m. PT. The event takes place at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Jeddi to share medical device experience

Since joining Intuitive Surgical in 2013, Dr. Jeddi has held multiple leadership roles in engineering, operations, and quality. Most recently, she was general manager of the da Vinci SP single-port platform, where she was responsible for establishing and executing a strategy for the business to ensure growth, profitability, and continued innovation.

In her role as general manager of the multiport platform, Jeddi directly oversees the product development, process engineering, and product management functions and is responsible for business and clinical strategy, multi-year product-development roadmaps, manufacturability, cost, and business-unit profit and loss.

Jeddi has more than 20 years of experience in the medical device industry, including five years at Abbott Laboratories, where she held multiple engineering and operations roles. Her work at Abbott contributed to the first commercial release of the FDA-approved implantable continuous glucose monitoring sensor.

Jeddi earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia, an M.S. in medical engineering from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Davis.

RoboBusiness will be on Oct. 15 at 16 in Santa Clara, Calif. It is the premier event for developers and suppliers of commercial robots. The event is produced by WTWH Media, which also produces The Robot Report, Automated Warehouse, and the Robotics Summit & Expo.

This year’s conference will also feature more than 60 speakers, a startup workshop, the annual Pitchfire competition, and numerous networking opportunities. RoboBusiness will include a track on surgical robotics. Over 100 exhibitors on the show floor will showcase their latest enabling technologies, products, and services to help solve your robotics development challenges.

RoboBusiness will be co-located with DeviceTalks West, the premier industry event for medical technology professionals. Both events attract engineering and business professionals from a broad range of healthcare and medical technology backgrounds.

Registration is now open for RoboBusiness 2025.
