RoboBusiness: NVIDIA to discuss role of Generative AI in robotics

We have seen a huge leap in the capabilities of Generative AI algorithms as demonstrated through ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other algorithms. It is expected that Generative AI will also have a large impact on robotic reasoning, visual understanding, and physical execution abilities.

At RoboBusiness 2023, which takes place Oct. 18-19 in Santa Clara, Calif., NVIDIA will be reviewing the latest trends, research, and impact of Generative AI on robotics. During her talk at 2 PM on Oct. 19 called “The Role of Generative AI in Robotics,” Sandra Skaff, NVIDIA’s Senior Alliances and Ecosystem Manager, will describe how GenAI is being leveraged for various robotics tasks.

Generative AI models use enormous datasets and require significant computing power for training and generating the content. For those reasons, NVIDIA’s GPUs have become a go-to source for computing power when it comes to GenAI applications.

Skaff leads robotics ecosystem development at NVIDIA and works with cross-functional teams to support partners and customers in developing their products. Prior to this role, she was global lead of academic research engagements, including the NVAIL program, where she was responsible for setting the strategy and managing a portfolio of engagements with top research labs in the areas of AI, robotics, and data science.

She has 10 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning R&D at both large corporations and startups. Skaff received the PhD and MEng. degrees in Computer Vision from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. She has authored and co-authored 20 peer-reviewed conference and journal publications and has been granted 13 patents.

NVIDIA’s director of product management, Amit Goel, will also be on a keynote panel about the use of Generative AI in robotics. He will be joined by Pras Velagapudi, VP of innovation at Agility Robotics, Jeff Linnell, CEO & Founder of Formant, Ken Goldberg, William S. Floyd Jr Distinguished Chair in Engineering at UC Berkeley and Ted Larson, CEO of OLogic.

RoboBusiness is the leading event focused on developing commercial robots. There will be 60-plus speakers, 60-plus exhibitors and demos on the expo floor, networking receptions, the Pitchfire Robotics Startup Competition and more. RoboBusiness will be co-located with the Field Robotics Engineering Forum, an event focused on successfully developing robots that operate in wide-ranging, outdoor, dynamic environments.

Also co-located with RoboBusiness is DeviceTalks West, the premier industry event for medical technology professionals, currently in its ninth year. Both events attract engineering and business professionals from a broad range of healthcare and medical technology backgrounds.
