PlusAI reaches key milestones ahead of launching its autonomous trucks

PlusAI Inc. yesterday said it has updated its commercial readiness metrics for the first half of 2026. These metrics highlight the company’s progress towards deployments of factory-built autonomous trucks in 2027.

“Every six months, we publish our commercial readiness metrics because they provide a transparent view into our progress,” said David Liu, co-founder and CEO of PlusAI. “The operational improvements combined with the commercial milestones our team has achieved recently show that PlusAI is making measurable progress toward deploying factory-built autonomous trucks at commercial scale.”

Founded in 2016, PlusAI is developing an AI-based driver for autonomous trucks. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said it has continued to improve the safety validation, operational maturity, and efficiency of its SuperDrive software with global partners.

Autonomous trucks advance in the first half of 2026

During the first half this year, PlusAI said it has:

  • Launched a commercial autonomous fleet trial with International and Ryder on the I-35 freight corridor in Texas
  • Announced the first autonomous trucks in Southern Europe, in cooperation with Spanish logistics operator Sesé and the government of Aragon in Spain
  • Released SuperDrive 6.0, delivering AI and processing improvements as well as enabling night driving and construction-zone handling designed for scaled driverless operations
  • Expanded its collaboration with NVIDIA by using the Alpamayo foundation model, DRIVE Hyperion, and Halos safety technologies
  • Achieved four key ISO certifications supporting commercial deployment
  • Expanded international commercialization efforts through partnerships in Europe and Japan

Where does PlusAI stand on commercial readiness metrics?

Through the first half of 2026, PlusAI said its safety case readiness (SCR) has increased from 90.1% to 93.4%. The autonomous vehicle software developer also reported that its autonomous miles percentage (AMP) has grown from 99.2% to 99.8%, and its remote assistance-free trips (RAFT) have increased from 79% to 85.2% in the second half of 2025.

Since introducing these metrics in 2025, PlusAI said it has steadily improved in all three indicators while expanding real-world operations. SCR measures progress toward completing the engineering evidence required to support safe commercial deployment.

RAFT measures the percentage of trips completed without remote operator intervention, reflecting operational maturity and scalability. AMP measures the percentage of miles driven autonomously during commercial operations, explained the company.

PlusAI said it expects to achieve 100% SCR in 2027 and more than 90% RAFT before commercial launch.

“Commercializing autonomous trucks requires more than a capable AI system. It requires proving that the system is safe, reliable and operationally efficient while working closely with OEMs, fleets, and ecosystem partners,” stated Shawn Kerrigan, co-founder and chief operating officer of PlusAI. “Our progress across these metrics, together with the commercial milestones we’ve achieved this year, reflects the maturity of both our technology and our commercialization strategy.”
