Oriental Motor USA releases DR Series compact motion controllers

By The Robot Report Staff | March 26, 2020

Oriental Motor USA Corp. this week announced the DR Series, its latest compact electric cylinder motion-control products. The compact motor is suitable for products such as robots.

The DR Series is a linear motion actuator that incorporates a precision ball screw into a stepper motor. This is intended to reduce design work, save space, and minimize the number of parts needed for assembly. The DR Series is available with the 28mm AZ Series or two-phase PKP Series base motor, according to the Torrance, Calif.-based company.

It added that its latest electric cylinders offer guaranteed specifications and performance. Because of its complete and compact design, robotics and other designers can use the DR Series to reduce the size of their overall machines, said the company.

Oriental Motor specs for DR Series

The DR Series AZ Type is available in four base cylinder types: table, wide table, rod, and guide rod, with two precision ball screws (2.5mm or 1mm). It is based on αSTEP technology with absolute closed-loop control and works with any AZ DC input-type driver, Oriental Motor said.

The DR Series PKP Type offers three base cylinder types: table, rod, and guided rod, with a 2.5mm ball screw. It is based on PKP Series two-phase motor technology and works with any CVD DC input-type driver. It is available with a rear shaft-adjusting knob.

Oriental Motor said the new DR Series includes the following key features:

  • Available with AZ Series or PKP Series base motor
  • Delivers a 30mm max stroke length
  • Includes an optional ball screw cover
  • Can be suppled with multiple cable output directions based on cylinder type

Oriental Motor USA is a subsidiary of Japan-based Oriental Motor Co., which was founded in 1885. The U.S. division remains open as an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
