As manufacturers increasingly use data and AI at the edge, they need reliable computing that works alongside real-time automation and control. OMRON Corp. this month said it has agreed to acquire 100% of OnLogic this week, worth $675 million, to combine its proven automation with OnLogic’s industrial computing expertise.
“This acquisition is an important step in advancing our SF2030 vision and our evolution toward GEMBA DX,” stated Junta Tsujinaga, president and CEO of OMRON. “North America is a key growth market for OMRON, and this investment strengthens our foundation there while building the capabilities our customers will increasingly need.”
“OnLogic’s industrial computing expertise, flexibility and strong customer relationships complement our strengths in automation and control,” he added. “Together, we see an opportunity to create new value for customers as manufacturing becomes more connected, data-driven and intelligent.”
Founded in 1933, OMRON Automation creates, sells, and services fully integrated automation solutions that include sensing, control, safety, vision, and motion. The Kyoto, Japan-based company said its 30,000 employees creatively help businesses solve problems in more than 110 countries. Its Americas office is in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
OnLogic to continue computing brand
Founded in 2003, OnLogic designs and makes configurable, solution-focused, AI-capable computers engineered for reliability at the Internet of Things (IoT) edge. The South Burlington, Vt.-based company said it has helped more than 70,000 customers worldwide with their complex computing challenges with systems that are built to order, delivered in days, and designed to last.
OnLogic noted that its systems operate in the world’s harshest environments across industries. It said joining OMRON will provide industrial automation expertise and access to new markets.
“We built OnLogic to help engineers and innovators solve tough technology challenges by making custom, rugged hardware easy to configure, build, and deploy,” said Sean Larkin, CEO of OnLogic. “Joining OMRON provides the global scale, supply chain depth, and capital resources to accelerate our product roadmaps while preserving our culture, direct sales approach, and operations around the world. Together, we are giving our customers the tools they need to deploy physical AI with confidence.”
Following the acquisition, OnLogic will continue to operate as an independent business within the OMRON Group. It will keep its offices in the U.S., the Netherlands, Germany, Taiwan, and Malaysia, as well as its brand identity and direct sales model.
OnLogic’s management team, led by Larkin, will remain in place to drive day-to-day operations and strategic growth.
OMRON sees opportunities for manufacturers
The companies said they will help customers address increasingly complex applications that require greater processing power, connectivity, and intelligence at the edge. OMRON has experience in control, robotics, and safety.
OnLogic brings configurable computing platforms designed for demanding applications and environments, as well as its flexible build-to-order model and customer reach across manufacturing and other markets.
The companies said they expect to more closely connect machine data, edge computing, and AI with real-time automation and control. Over time, the combination is expected to create systems that help turn data, insights, and AI into faster, more informed actions to optimize manufacturing.
OMRON added that the acquisition is an investment in its Industrial Automation Business and strengthens the company’s position in the Americas and Europe. OnLogic has relationships with customers across both traditional automation markets and industries where OMRON sees additional opportunities for growth.
In addition, OMRON said it remains committed to its established channel strategy and to continuing to invest in and support the partners that help it serve customers and grow in the market. The companies said they expect the acquisition to close in or around January 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
