NORD Drivesystems recently expanded its NORDAC PRO SK 500P VFD series. Now, the company’s NORDAC VFDs reach powers up to 200 hp with multi-protocol Ethernet interfaces, integrated functional safety, and wireless diagnostics.

NORD described its variable frequency drives as control cabinet systems that can handle a broad range of applications with scalable functionality, versatility, and maximum connectivity. With the addition of four new frame sizes, bringing the total to 10, the product line now covers a performance range of 0.33 – 200.0 hp, further expanding the capabilities of the NORDAC PRO series.

The VFD’s compact, book-size design enables side-by-side installation without gaps, said the company. This makes it easier to integrate it into the cabinet and reduce volume, installation space, and costs.

NORD Drivesystems offers a comprehensive range of mechanical and electronic systems for industries worldwide. The Bargteheide, Germany-based company‘s modular product range includes energy-efficient and adaptable drives consisting of geared motors, electric motors, industrial gear units, and frequency inverters.

NORD says its VFDs can adapt to a range of environments

NORD said the NORDAC PRO VFDs are adaptable to individual application requirements across industries such as airport baggage handling, intralogistics, bulk material handling, and packaging.

The VFDs are compatible for operation with three-phase asynchronous motors as well as IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering high-precision control with strong overload capabilities for constant torque applications.

Basic variants of the product series (SK 500P) offer full PLC functionality, four parameter sets switchable directly online, and an integrated brake chopper. They also include POSICON positioning control, an energy-saving function, and a CANopen interface, as well as parameterization via plug-in control module, NORDCON software tool, or app.

Advanced versions of NORDAC PRO drives now available

Advanced NORDAC PRO versions include additional inputs/outputs, SK TU5 plug-in control modules, SK CU5 extension modules, and an integrated multi-protocol Ethernet interface. This interface connects to Ethernet-based control systems and enables individual parameter configuration.

Additional features include:

  • A USB interface that is accessible for voltage-free programming and parameterization even without a mains connection
  • A microSD card slot for data storage and transfer of parameter data between drives and computer interfaces
  • A diagnostic interface via RJ12 connection

Versions SK 510P and above offer functional safety options, such as STO and SS1, for safe shutdown to prevent hazards to people and damage to system components.

The four new frame sizes are advanced drives available as SK 530P, SK 540P, and SK 550P versions with modules including SK TU5-CTR (ControlBox), SK TU5-PAR (ParameterBox), and SK CU5-STO/MLT. They also feature accessories including mains, DC link and motor chokes, braking resistors, control options, EMV-kits, and more.

NORD software makes installation simpler

NORD added that its NORDCON commissioning and diagnostic software provides fast, reliable parameterization of NORDAC PRO SK 500P variable frequency drives. This free software features a uniform user interface with dashboard-based visualization, enabling easy access to the electronic drive systems for simple parameter management and comprehensive diagnosis, claimed the company.

NORDCON offers an oscilloscope function for drive analysis, a help function for rapid parameterization, and a backup and recovery functions. It also includes the NORDCON SCOPE function to support application engineers during initial commissioning, drive optimization during operation, and diagnosis for servicing.

In addition, NORD said the NORDAC PRO SK 500P electronic drives are compatible with the NORDAC ACCESS BT Bluetooth stick. The Bluetooth stick provides a wireless connection from a mobile device to the NORDAC drive, allowing full access control for quick checks of operating parameters or viewing of drive history data.
