Festo eMotionButterflies, Bionicopter to take flight at Robotics Summit

By The Robot Report Staff | May 29, 2019

BOSTON — Festo Corp. will demonstrate its eMotionButterflies and Bionicopter robot dragonfly at the Robotics Summit & Expo. The company will show how its “active articulated torsion drive” can provide both lift and propulsion to a winged robot without requiring an additional drive.

The Robotics Summit & Expo will be on June 5-6 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. It will offer numerous educational and networking opportunities for robotics developers.

Esslingen, Germany-based Festo has more than 21,000 employees worldwide and facilities in Billerica, Mass. It specializes in factory and process automation, including drives, grippers, materials handling products, motors, and control hardware and software. Festo is a family-owned company, and it also provides process automation for safety and programs for technical training and development.

Several of Festo’s innovative designs are inspired by biology and developed by its Bionic Learning Network, including robotics products based on an octopus tentacle, an elephant’s trunk, and bats.

Festo, which will be exhibiting at Booth 216 on the Robotics Summit & Expo show floor, will also be bringing its eMotionButterflies and Bionicopter robot dragonfly to BotMix, a fun reception after the first day of the conference that will include food and drinks, games, live music, and robot demonstrations.
