YI Technology has introduced the Erida tricopter drone that it claims can fly at speeds up to 75 mph and stay in the air for up to 40 minutes.
If true, that’s one of the longest flight times of any drone out there. Parrot’s Disco fixed-wing drone, which is launching in September 2016 for $1,299, can stay in the air for 45 minutes.
The Erida tricopter drone can reach 75 MPH thanks to its durable and lightweight frame that’s made of 100 percent carbon fiber. And two of the three propellers rotate and fold back to make it easier to travel with Erida.

YI is best known for its 4K Action Camera that combines 4K video recording at 30 fps for up to 120 minutes, so that, of course, is featured on the Erida tricopter. The YI Erida features a motorized gimbal to stabilize the on-board 4K camera and works seamlessly with the drone, camera and mobile app.
“With the launch of YI Erida we are solving three of the biggest barriers to widespread drone adoption: overly complex products, lack of consumer accessibility and short flight time,” said Sean Da, Co-Founder & CEO of YI Technology.
Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet for the YI Erida tricopter drone. YI said it’s developing Erida with Atlas. If that sounds familiar, it should. The two companies unsuccessfully tried to get an Erida Gen.B drone crowdfunded last year on Indiegogo. The campaign raised $20,285, which was 41% of its $50,000 goal.
Let’s hope Erida and Atlas have better luck this time around with the Erida tricopter drone.
