Whether you consider this a drone or not is irrelevant. This 54-propellor “super drone” is damn impressive and would make the Wright Brothers proud, as one of my colleagues pointed out.
Called the Swarm because its propellers make a noise resembling a swarm of bees, this drone doesn’t get very far off the ground, and it appears to be controlled with two joysticks in the “cockpit.”
Here’s the description from the YouTube video uploaded by gasturbine101:
“The Swarm man carrying multi-rotor airborne flight testing montage. 54 counter-rotation propellers, six grouped control channels with Hobbyking stabilization. Take of weight 148kg, max lift, max approx. lift 164kg. Endurance10 minutes.”
The Swarm comprises a metal frame and polycarbonate drone to try to keep the pilot safe.
