Sophia, the incredibly life-like humanoid robot from Hanson Robotics, took a ride in an Audi A7 self-driving car. Watch the ride and hear Sophia’s opinion on autonomous driving.
By now you’ve heard of Sophia, the incredibly human-like robot from Hanson Robotics. We’ve seen Sophia play Rock, Paper, Scissors, say she will “destroy humans,” and talk about artificial intelligence (AI) on 60 Minutes.
Now we have a glimpse into another first for Sophia: riding in a self-driving car. Sophia took a ride in Audi’s autonomous A7 named “Jack.” You might remember the self-driving A7 completed a two-day, 550-mile trip from the San Francisco Bay Area to Las Vegas in time for the kickoff of CES 2015.

Sophia’s ride-along wasn’t quite 550 miles, but it’s still fun to get her thoughts on autonomous driving. When asked about her opinion about autonomous driving Sophia said, “to be quite honest, I think it’s mega cool … I know some people react skeptically to intelligent systems like me, but for my part, I have complete confidence in Jack.”
Sophia remained calm throughout the self-driving car ride, which is more than you can say about this grandmother in a Tesla on Autopilot. When told the self-driving ride was about to come to an end Sophia said, “what a pity.”
