The new Robotics Innovation Centre solidifies Australia’s international robotics standing.
Description:
In March 2019, Datra61, a business unit within Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO,) opened a new purpose-built research center for robotics and autonomous systems – the Robotics Innovation Centre. The 48,000 square foot facility, which is located at CSIRO’s Queensland Centre of Advanced Technologies, features the biggest motion capture system in the Southern Hemisphere, which used to validate data collected by robotics systems. It also boasts of a 13x5M pool for testing aquatic robots, along with a number of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), legged systems, aerial drones, and industrial robots. Data61 representatives indicated that the Robotics Innovation Centre is open for both research and industry use, along with collaborative projects.
