Tesla recently announced that every car it makes will come pre-loaded with its self-driving technology. If you’ve ever wondered what a Tesla driving on Autopilot sees as it’s traveling down the road, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted out a video that does just that.
The video shows a Tesla cruising down some side streets, stopping at stops signs and red lights, carefully avoiding pedestrians along the way. The video shares, in real time, views from three cameras (two rear cameras, one front camera) and how different objects are categorized by the self-driving system.
Now, this wasn’t a flawless run for Tesla. You’ll notice about 30 seconds into the video below, the Tesla stops well short of the car in front of it at the red light. Maybe it was being extra cautious with the biker on the right side of the road. Then again at the :55 mark the car is awkwardly cautious with the two women running on the side of the road.
But we’re nitpicking, to be honest. The video is quite impressive as the driver doesn’t touch the wheel once, and the Tesla navigated some complex roads and objects.
Next we’d love to see how Autopilot performs in snowy weather or at night.
