It’s been a rough stretch for drone delivery advocates. First you had the FAA essentially ban drone delivery in the US, only to grant Amazon a trial later on, then you had Crocs fail miserably in its attempt to deliver lightweight shoes at a story in Tokyo.
The video above is yet more proof why drone delivery might not be ready for prime time.
Every year restauranteur Ronald Peijnenburg comes up with a fun way to deliver asparagus to celebrate the start of the asparagus season. He’s used a hot air balloon, a helicopter, even a Formula 1 racing car in the past. This year, however, he chose a drone.
And the outcome was spectacularly bad. According to the Dutch News, “the trip started well enough and a landing to change the battery was also a success. But shortly after the second take off, the drone crashed to the ground and burst into flames, toasting the asparagus it was carrying.”
