But I hate April 1, and all the pranks that come with it, so let’s get this out of the way up front: Carlsberg doesn’t plan on actually using drones to deliver beer in the UK anytime soon. But, how cool would it be if it did? A 12-pack delivered to your house in 30 minutes or less? And all you have to do is make a phone call? Sign me up.
But the video above is just a sad reminder of the current state of drones here in the United States. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) essentially banned drone delivery service with its proposed drone guidelines. Yes, they have since granted Amazon permission to test its Prime Air service, but the company still isn’t happy with the FAA, and rightfully so.
This video, and countless others, show the possibilities of drone delivery. Yes, there are many reasons drone delivery could fail – see the Crocs shoe delivery debacle – but the FAA needs to let drone companies innovate here in the U.S. If that was the case, I’d have a 12-pack en route to my house right now.
And the American people have spoken. They want drone deliveries. In fact, they expect drone deliveries to happen soon.
