Ubitus, MacKay Memorial Hospital co-develop three medical robots

Ubitus, a NVIDIA Connect member, this week announced that it has collaborated with MacKay Memorial Hospital to develop three AI-powered multi-modal medical robots. The company made the announcement at NVIDIA GTC Taiwan 2025.

Tokyo-based Ubitus said NVIDIA technologies played a key role in developing healthcare automation intended to improve patient care and enhance efficiency.

“We are honored to partner with MacKay Memorial Hospital to pioneer multi-modal medical robot collaboration powered by NVIDIA’s comprehensive healthcare AI technologies, assisting MacKay in becoming the first smart hospital in Taiwan to adopt NVIDIA B200,” stated Wesley Kuo, CEO of Ubitus. “This collaboration demonstrates the real-world impact of AI in healthcare and reinforces our commitment to driving innovation in smart healthcare solutions.”

The project used NVIDIA Omniverse and Isaac Sim to simulate hospital environments. This enabled virtual testing, collaboration, and task training ahead of deployment. The company said the virtual-physical integration minimized pre-deployment risks and costs while significantly shortening deployment timelines and optimizing operational workflows.

As a member of the NVIDIA Connect program, Ubitus relied on NVIDIA’s support and graphics processing units (GPUs) to accelerate artificial intelligence innovation. The company delivers advanced AI systems, including UbiGPT (a large language model), UbiONE (an AI-powered avatar creation platform), and UbiArt (an image generation tool), providing customized solutions to meet the diverse needs of various industries.

3 robots to redefine healthcare operations

As part of the collaboration, Ubitus and MacKay Memorial Hospital have co-developed three intelligent robots designed for various medical applications, combining NVIDIA’s cutting-edge technologies with proprietary AI models:

  • Autonomous mobile robot (AMR): Equipped with a virtual assistant, this robot provides patient navigation, interactive companionship, and registration assistance, offering a more seamless and personalized patient journey.
  • Humanoid: Built on NVIDIA Isaac GR00T N1, this robot features advanced dual-arm manipulation, enabling autonomous specimen transport and material handling in unmanned settings to boost logistics efficiency.
  • Quadruped robot: Built on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin and integrating NVIDIA Isaac GR00T ReMemBr and NVIDIA Isaac GR00T X-mobility technologies, this legged robot navigates high-risk, hard-to-reach areas to perform environmental monitoring. It includes gas detection, thermal sensing, and water leakage detection, transmitting real-time data to reduce healthcare risks.

In addition, each robot uses the NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs with the Llama 4 large language model (LLM) and NVIDIA Riva to enable natural, multilingual interactions, said Ubitus.

The virtual assistant uses NVIDIA ACE digital human technologies to enhance patient engagement with customizable avatars. It offers emotional support, health education, and companionship for a more empathetic care experience.

Ubitus brings more robots to healthcare

Hospital staff praised the AI-powered robots for their practical impact on patient navigation, medical logistics, and safety inspections, Ubitus said. The staff cited reduced workload and improved clinical efficiency.

The company plans to deepen its collaboration with MacKay Memorial Hospital and NVIDIA, expanding AI and multi-modal robotics across emergency, inpatient, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings. It said its goal is to deliver flexible, scalable smart healthcare solutions that seamlessly integrate AI into clinical workflows, enhancing care quality and efficiency.

“We are proud to collaborate with Ubitus in bringing AI and robotics into our hospital,” said Dr. Chia-Shiang Lin, president of MacKay Memorial Hospital. “This partnership not only enhances patient service quality but also optimizes internal workflows and safety management.”
