Mobile manipulation can take many forms. TRON1 is a cute two-legged mobile robot, reminiscent of the AT-ST walker in Star Wars. It is one of the primary offerings of LimX Dynamics.

Exhibiting at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Atlanta this week, LimX is targeting the biped at research applications. Founded in 2005, the Shenzhen, China-based company said it is developing “general-purpose robotics” and working toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).

LimX Dynamics recently earned recognition with 2025 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for the multi-model locomotion design of its platform.

LimX provides multiple expansion options

With the latest expansion kit, TRON1 owners can now add a single arm to the top of the platform. LimX Dynamics said it is aiming the robot at research applications focused on humanoid embodied AI and mobile manipulation research.

The platform is fully functional out of the box and offers a low-cost option for research labs looking for a ready-to-run platform, the company claimed.

When TRON1 is equipped with a robotic arm, researchers and developers can easily study the three major areas of mobile operation, whole body control, and motion planning, according to LimX.

TRON1 comes with modular features

Alternatively, TRON1 can be equipped with an NVIDIA NX high computing module and a high-performance pickup module. LimX Dynamics said this add-on supports voice wake-up, voice control, and other functions to help the development of voice interactions and enhance anthropomorphism and scene adaptability.

The company added that TRON1 is suitable for upgrades around education, human-machine interaction, and navigation.

Another option integrates a lidar and depth camera for easy installation and optimizing the robot’s field of view. LimX said this pre-tuned system provides out-of-the-box hardware and software for scientific research in 3D mapping, repositioning, navigation, and dynamic obstacle avoidance.
