Lidar maker Luminar has filed for Chapter 11 and plans to sell off its assets after Volvo terminated a key contract.

In 2020, autonomous vehicles left other technology applications in the dust. Other areas of robotics receiving funding or merger and acquisition activity included supply chain automation, surgical robots, and quadrupeds.

Luminar Technologies, which has been developing lidar hardware and autonomous vehicle software, is merging with SPAC Gores Metropoulos as it readies its full stack for Volvo’s 2022 models.
