Robot-assisted surgery is one of the most promising applications for robotics and artificial intelligence. At DeviceTalks West and RoboBusiness, which are co-located at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Oct. 15 and 16, attendees can explore advances in surgical robotics in several sessions.

RoboBusiness 2025 sessions discussing surgical robots will include:

  • Protecting Innovation in Robotics: IP Strategies That Work: This session will look at approaches to protect intellectual property and will feature Kartik Tiwari, co-founder and chief technology officer at Andromeda Surgical; Roman Fayerberg, an attorney at Greenberg Traurig; and Chase Olle, CEO of Robot on Rails. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2:30 p.m. PT, Room 206.
  • A Comprehensive Tour of the Modern Surgical Robot Suite: Learn about the contemporary surgical robotics suite, including  surgeon console, robotic arm configurations, patient tables, surgical power tools, and diagnostic devices. James Davison, vice president of engineering at Kollmorgen, and Yoshi Umeno, industry manager for global medical and robotics at Kollmorgen, will present. Oct. 15, 4:00 p.m., Room 207.
  • From Teleop to Autonomy: A Framework for Humanoid Surgical Robots: Michael Yip, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and affiliate professor of computer science and mechanical & aerospace engineering at UC San Diego, will discuss the potential for the humanoid form factor in healthcare and surgical settings. Oct. 15, 4:00 p.m., Room 209/210.
  • Redefining the Future of Surgical Robotics: Iman Jeddi, Ph.D., senior vice president and general manager for da Vinci platforms and product operations at Intuitive Surgical, will take a look inside the redesign and launch of the da Vinci 5 in this closing keynote. Thursday, Oct. 16, 3:30 p.m., Theater.

RoboBusiness focuses on the development and commercialization of automation. It includes tracks on design and development, enabling technologies, physical AI, field robotics, humanoids, and business. The event also includes the annual Pitchfire competition, numerous networking opportunities, and more than 100 exhibitors.

DeviceTalks West to feature surgical robotics experts

DeviceTalks West will gather leading engineers, executives, and innovators to explore the surgical robotics and digital surgery technologies that will shape how — and where — surgery is performed.

Several sessions at this conference will explore advances in surgical robotics, including movement into new clinical therapies such as neurovascular treatment and new clinical settings such as ambulatory surgery centers.

Speakers will include leaders driving the evolution of robotic surgery from both established players and emerging startups:

  • Tim Schmid, executive vice president and worldwide chairman, Johnson & Johnson MedTech
  • Yulun Wang, co-founder and chairman, Sovato
  • Brian Miller, senior vice president and chief digital officer, Intuitive Surgical
  • Shane Farritor, co-founder and chief technology officer, Virtual Incision
  • Anne Osdoit, CEO, Moon Surgical
  • Liane Teplitsky, CEO, Artedrone
  • Mostafa Toloui, medtech product management lead, NVIDIA
  • Mike Kijewski, CEO, Medcrypt

Registration is now open for both conferences.
