Kodiak Robotics is developing autonomous technology for long-haul trucking. Kodiak Robotics was founded in 2018 by Don Burnette, an earlier-founder of the self-driving truck company Otto and former Google self-driving car engineer, and Paz Eshel, a former venture capitalist.

Kodiak Robotics emerged from stealth mode and raised $40 million in Series A funding on August 7, 2018.
The startup will use the funding to hire more engineers and test its long-haul self-driving trucks that use cameras, LiDAR, radar, and sonar to see the road.

Burnette and Eshel co-founded Kodiak Robotics to alleviate the strain of the truck driver shortage with self-driving trucks. Burnette says in just three months Kodiak Robotics assembled a team of about 10 “world-class” engineers who have “experience in actually shipping self-driving vehicles on public roads.”
