Developing robots that promote social-emotional learning in children

By The Robot Report Staff | August 24, 2020

RoboBusiness Direct will examine the development of the Moxie companion robot. | Source: Embodied

In this RoboBusiness Direct presentation, Paolo Pirjanian, CEO at Embodied Inc., will discuss how the relationship between humans and robots is evolving, including how technology can be applied for social good. Specifically, he will review the creation of Moxie, a robotic companion designed to help children with social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Pirjanian will describe how machine learning was used so that Moxie could perceive, process, and respond to natural conversation, eye contact, and facial expressions. He will also examine how the robot can recognize and recall people, places, and things.

In addition, Pirjanian will discuss how this sensory input can be used to help children learn and safely practice essential life skills such as turn taking, eye contact, emotion regulation, relationship management, and problem solving.

RoboBusiness Direct is an ongoing, integrated series of digital events delivered by brightest minds from the leading robotics and automation companies from around the world. The series complements continuing coverage and analysis in Robotics Business Review, a sibling site to The Robot Report. RoboBusiness Direct is designed to impart to business and engineering professionals the information they need to identify market opportunities, successfully develop and deploy the next generation of commercial robotics systems, and accelerate their businesses.
