RMUS to distribute Sarcos Robotics’ Guardian S crawler robot in North America

By The Robot Report Staff | May 6, 2020

Rocky Mountain Unmanned Systems, or RMUS, announced today that it has partnered with Sarcos Robotics to distribute Sarcos’ award-winning Guardian S crawling robot for industrial and public-safety applications.

RMUS is a leading unmanned systems fleet management provider in the U.S. and Canada. It provides vetted equipment sales, online and in-person educational programs, and professional and technical support services. The Salt Lake City, Utah-based company was founded in 2014 and provides aerial drones and other systems to law enforcement authorities.

Sarcos Robotics, which is also based in Salt Lake City, has spent more than 25 years developing systems to augment human intelligence and judgement with mechanical strength, endurance, and precision. The company spun out of the University of Utah and Raytheon Co. and is supported by investors including Caterpillar, GE Ventures, Microsoft, and Schlumberger.

Sarcos’ mobile robotic systems include the Guardian S, Guardian GT, and Guardian XO. The Guardian XO industrial exoskeleton started shipping earlier this year.

RMUS creates payloads for ruggedized Guardian S robot

The Guardian S is a compact, multi-purpose remote visual inspection tool, according to Sarcos. The ruggedized robot is designed to be deployed in challenging terrain and confined spaces while maintaining real-time situational awareness via wireless transmission from six high-resolution cameras and onboard audio sensors.

At 17 lb., the Guardian S can be transported and deployed within minutes, Sarcos said. The robot is also highly modular and capable of easily integrating additional third-party sensors for various inspection applications.

“We are excited to offer this groundbreaking terrestrial robotic solution,” stated JT VonLunen, president of RMUS. “Our team of skilled technicians have already created several payload options for the Guardian S, including thermal sensors and a spraying system for dispersing disinfectants in HVAC environments and other hard-to-access areas.”

“We are pleased to join forces with RMUS for the distribution and service of the Guardian S robot,” said Jim Ryder, chief revenue officer of Sarcos Robotics. “RMUS’ experience in the unmanned systems industry is a great asset, and we look forward to supporting their innovative integrations for our platform.”

RMUS will provide direct sales of the Guardian S system as well as service, support, and maintenance.
