Today’s machine vision systems, based on a form of frame-based imaging invented in the 1880s, capture everything going on in a scene at a fixed rate, taxing computing resources and complicating analysis as a result. Conversely, the bio-inspired, event-based sensing systems capture only what changes in a scene, which reduces computational load, and delivers low latency, high resolution imaging with lower power and processing requirements. Event-based imaging has a huge potential for automating tasks in environments where traditional cameras are challenged, such as for low light applications requiring low-latency, high speed, and high dynamic range sensing.
