Description:
PAL and PAL Mini, two solid state, omnidirectional 3D vision systems recently launched by Philadelphia-based DreamVu, includes the hardware (camera) and the software required to run the camera and to perform tasks such as obstacle detection and avoidance, localization and mapping. Each system provides 360° horizontal field-of-view, with PAL supporting a 110° vertical field-of-view while PAL Mini offers an 80° vertical field-of-view.

Analysis:
The sensor stacks in robots (especially mobile robots) are expensive and complex. DreamVu addresses these challenges by offering the low power, small form factor PAL and PAL Mini, 360° 3D cameras that provide high-resolution vision, high-accuracy depth, and color 3D point-clouds. The PAL stereo vision systems deliver a large field of view for situational awareness, but at a lower cost than LiDAR solutions or others requiring the use of additional narrow field-of-view cameras to provide the same 360° coverage. – Dan Kara
