While full autonomy is a goal for much robotics development, human operators are still important for tasks requiring high-level decision making or for training artificial intelligence. PrismaX yesterday launched its teleoperation platform for robotic arms.
“The launch of our tele-op platform is the first step towards mainstream adoption,” stated Bayley Wang, co-founder and CEO of PrismaX. “It is a proof of concept for a future where humans and robots will work hand in hand to amplify human capacity. The long-term platform value is designed to serve as the basis of an extensive future labor market.”
Wang and co-founder Chyna Qu have experience in both robotics and decentralized technologies. PrismaX emerged from stealth in June with $11 million in funding. The San Francisco-based startup is building and scaling foundational models to power advances in physical generative AI.
Wang announced the teleoperation system in a keynote address at the inaugural RoboCon by PrismaX event. At launch, the platform allows users to log in and remotely operate a robotic arm.
PrismaX plans to grow with the industry
PrismaX said it developed its roadmap to evolve as the robotics industry evolves. The company’s short-term focus is on teleoperations and gathering visual data for model training.
“Currently, robotics adoption is not widespread, and teleoperators lack experience, but robotic companies need cost-effective visual data collection,” it said.
In the mid-term, as robots become more autonomous, people will remotely operate fleets to complete real tasks for real customers. Early-stage teleoperators will be more experienced and competitive in labor marketplaces, according to PrismaX.
In the long term, robots will achieve high degrees of autonomy based on the foundational models that materialized in the short and midterm, the company asserted. When this happens, PrismaX said its network will shift to providing production-level services for millions of robots, with a focus on cost and efficiency.
‘Data flywheel’ to accelerate robot autonomy
In PrismaX’s data-model flywheel, more robots generate valuable datasets, enhancing AI, which improves robot productivity and viability. This self-reinforcing cycle could accelerate the full automation of robots, claimed the company.
PrismaX said it will enable access to robots including the Unitree G1, Ubtech Walker, Pollen Robotics Reachy 2, K-Scale Labs K-Bot, Boardwalk Robotics Alex, Enchanted Tools Mirokai, MIT Mini-Cheetah, and Unitree Go2-W.
Following the launch of its platform, PrismaX plans to host a tele-op tournament, with incentives for participants. The company said it will share further details about the tournament through its social channels.
