PIA demonstrates V-RAC system for drug delivery assembly

Medical devices require precise and consistent manufacturing. PIA Automation Holding GmbH, a provider of modular assembly lines and process automation, is highlighting the development of its V-RAC module, which can be adjusted to handle various drug-delivery devices.

The company, which has offices including in Evansville, Ind., and Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Germany, is expanding its presence in the North American market. It is exhibiting at MD&M West 2025 this week in Anaheim, Calif.

“Our demos at MD&M West 2025 are all about showcasing innovation and flexibility in manufacturing processes,” he added. “With our modular approach and advanced automation capabilities, we’re setting new standards for efficiency, adaptability, and precision in assembly lines.” 

V-RAC to simulate device handling

The PIA meditec V-RAC system is a compact assembly cell for the fully automated production of small and medium volumes of insulin pens and auto-injectors.

At MD&M West, PIA will give attendees live demonstrations of its assembly technology, including V-RAC. In Booth 5328 in the ATX Hall, the company will show how the platform can readjust to efficiently handle various drug-delivery devices.

The exhibit will include a robotic arm simulating real-world processes, handing devices such as an insulin pen. The robot will pick a device from a tray and maneuver it through multiple axes, moving up, down and around, simulating a vision–control module.

PIA Automation serves multiple manufacturers

PIA Automation said it has decades of experience applying automation for greater flexibility, reliability, and sustainability in manufacturing. The unit of PIA Group has more than 1,850 employees and has completed over 8,700 projects. It said its innovations can significantly improve performance in the automotive, energy storage, life science, medical, commercial goods, electronics, and components industries.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, PIA repurposed some of its lines for the automotive and consumer goods industries to increase production of protective masks.

The company has a global service portfolio and its own Industry 4.0 products including autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). PIA said it offers its customers a competitive advantage in system operations, as well as in the digitalization and networking of production.
