Martin established the Oxford Martin School in Oxford to focus on future challenges facing mankind and spoke eloquently about how technologists needed to work with all the other players involved with their products.
He worked with IBM and was the principal developer of real-time database systems including the American Airlines and BOAC reservation systems. He also wrote The Meaning of the 21st Century, which was made into a major film, narrated by Michael Douglas. He was a Pulitzer nominee for his book The Wired Society.
