Flexxbotics, a leading provider of process control software for automated manufacturing, today announced a strategic expansion with new offices in Newlab at Michigan Central in Detroit. The company said the new facilities position it for tighter collaboration with customers and partners across the Midwest.

“We’re excited to welcome Flexxbotics to Newlab Detroit,” said Riley Hall, general manager at Newlab. “Flexxbotics is an ideal fit for our community – their technology is built for next-generation manufacturing environments, and their focus on deployment and scalability reflects exactly the kind of innovation we aim to support here in Detroit.”

Newlab said it helps industrial technology startups commercialize and scale faster by aligning infrastructure, commercialization projects, and capital in locations with strategic advantages. The organization operates five innovation hubs globally and manages active pilot programming in additional regions.

To date, Newlab has partnered with more than 50 industry and government leaders and has supported over 400 member companies in raising over $5.8 billion from venture capital firms. Its members have reported more than $2.3 billion of successful exits and a collective valuation of over $20 billion.

Flexxbotics supports manufacturing digitalization

Flexxbotics said its solution digitalizes production automation for next-generation smart factories. It designed its FlexxCORE technology to connect and coordinate robots with existing robots, IT systems, and people to enable “lights-out” manufacturing.

The Boston-based company said its flexible and open approach can make robots easier to use in complex production. For example, Flexxbotics in October partnered with Mach Medical to improve connectivity and control in its plant manufacturing orthopedic implants.

In October, the company was also named a finalist in the 2025 Humanoid Robotics Industry Awards.

Newlab location in a center for U.S. reindustrialization

Flexxbotics said the expansion puts it in one of the top advanced manufacturing clusters in the U.S. It noted that Detroit’s concentration of automotive, defense, industrial, and medical sectors make it an important location for reindustrialization.

“We are aligned with Newlab’s strategic approach to manufacturing transformation and believe attaining autonomous process control in production automation is the key to scaling factory autonomy,” stated Tyler Bouchard, founder and CEO of Flexxbotics. “As customer demand in the Great Lakes region continues to accelerate, expanding our presence in the Detroit area further strengthens our resources in one of the nation’s leading industrial innovation centers.”

Flexxbotics has collaborated with Shelby Township, Mich.-based IPR Robotics on developing and delivering the StakTrax dual-rail robotic transfer unit (RTU) for machine tending. The Robot Report is working on a case study about this partnership.
