MiR launches two heavy-duty autonomous mobile robots

Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) launched two autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to extend its existing product line and better serve the needs of its customers. The new MiR600 and MiR1350 AMRs offer extended payload capacity.

The MiR600 replaces the MiR500 and includes a 600 kg (1322.8 lbs) payload capability. The MiR1350 replaces the MiR1000 and includes a 1350 kg (3000 lbs) payload capability. Both AMRs have been redesigned with new drives to achieve the extended payload ranges. In addition, both AMRs offer an IP52 rating, making them better able to operate in applications where there will be occasional moisture or water on the floor. The AMRs are not designed to be power washed.

“We are seeing a lot of interest in applications where the AMRs need to operate in facilities like food prep, or where the facility is cleaned on a regular basis,” said Ed Mullen, MiR’s VP of sales for North America. “These new models fit the requirements of these applications with the IP52 rating. We’re excited to be able to offer this to our customers now.”

The cargo lifting mechanisms have also been enhanced to be able to lift the extend payloads of each AMR.

New safety features

Mullen also said MiR’s new AMRs (and the MiR250) are now compliant with the ISO13694 standard and the newly released ANSI/RIA 15.08 standard. The software on these robots includes new features that enable partners and customers to fine tune the safety regions around the robot, especially for applications in which there is a payload attached to the top of the AMR that extend beyond the basic outline of the MiR AMR base.

North American market is growing

Mullen is bullish on the opportunity in North America for MiR. During his tenure as sale leader over the last five years, he has seen the market explode and with his leadership, the integrator/partner channel has grown. The company now has sales offices on the east coast and the west coast of the U.S., and they are also actively hiring technical support and applications engineers.

Mullen believes there is a huge opportunity in the automotive, assembly and warehouse markets for MiR’s complete lineup. Its AMRs are especially well suited to applications in final goods movement, work in process, line side replenishment and pallet movement.

MiR has had a strong start financially in 2021. MiR earned $16 million in the second quarter, which is up 14% Q/Q and 41% Y/Y and up 51% from Q2 2019. It earned $14 million in the first quarter, which was up 55% over the same period for both 2020 and 2019.
