It hasn’t been a good day for self-driving cars. First you had MIT professor and historian David Mindell say cars should never be fully driverless. Now Jay Leno, former host of “The Tonight Show” and a car aficionado, has reiterated Mindell’s thoughts.
Leno spoke about self-driving cars as part of his new CNBC show, “Jay Leno’s Garage,” and he equates self-driving cars to how airplanes fly.
“Do you think the pilot really flies the plane? He just sits in a chair and watches dials and monitors. He’ll participate in the landing and everything else, but for the most part airplanes are self-driving.”
Leno continues, “the idea of you jumping in the back seat with a bottle of scotch in the car driving you from bar to bar, that’s not really going to happen. But that’s what people think.”
