iRobot introduced the latest evolution of its Genius Home Intelligence platform the iRobot OS. The operating system includes enhanced pet features, voice commands and object detection features.

The iRobot OS works on the Roomba j7 and j7+ robot vacuums, and leverages feedback from iRobot’s over 20 million connected devices sold. The system is already enabling over 2.7 million cleaning tasks every day.

With iRobot OS, Roombas are equipped with more pet friendly features, like a pet lock that can prevent animals from accidentally activating the device and the ability to set Keep Out Zones, so you can make sure your Roomba stays away from certain areas, like around a water dish.

The updated operating system is also able to make suggestions like recommending a different cleaning schedule during pet shedding seasons. Additionally, the company guarantees that with its latest operating system, Roombas are able to identify and avoid solid pet waste.

Roombas are also able to detect and avoid shoes, socks, cords, headphones, clothing and towels with the company’s latest operating system. Its computer vision platform can recognize over 80 different common objects around the home, and avoid them so customers don’t have to clean up before the Roomba starts cleaning.

Finally, the iRobot OS recognizes around 600 different Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri commands. For example, you can tell your Roomba to clean a specific room, or even a specific area of a room, and it’ll understand.

“As iRobot expands its ecosystem of connected robots and smart home devices, we are placing a strategic emphasis on superior software intelligence delivered on high-performance, beautifully designed hardware,” Colin Angle, chairman and CEO of iRobot, said. “iRobot OS brings it all to life, enabling products that understand the home environment, respect customer preferences and intuitively connect with the smart home ecosystem to get the job done. iRobot OS lets our robots get smarter and clean even more effectively over time, delivering valuable new features and functionality that benefits all customers, including pet owners, busy families and those looking to get the most out of their voice assistants. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuously building upon iRobot OS, providing customers with even more thoughtful ways to clean in the months and years ahead.”

The company’s last update to its Genius Home Intelligence system came out in March 2022. This update allowed for room-specific cleaning preferences, Siri integration and child and pet locks.
