In Episode 197 of The Robot Report Podcast, our guest is Geoffrey Biggs, chief technology officer of the Open Source Robotics Foundation. He provides an update on the recent ROS 2 Kilted Kaiju release, the pending ROS 1 sunset, and the future of Open Robotics. The conversation was recorded live at the 2025 Robotics Summit & Expo.
Here is the video version of the interview with Geoffrey Biggs:
Co-host Steve Crowe also recaps this week’s annual International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), which this year was held in Atlanta. Steve talks about all of the humanoid robots and other robotics demos at the event.
Show timeline
- 1:23 – Steve Crowe and Mike Oitzman recap the 2025 ICRA research robotics event.
- 46:05 – Mike interviews Geoffrey Biggs, CTO of the Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF).
News of the week
TRON 1 robot extends its reach with a new optional arm
Exhibiting at its biped ICRA, LimX is targeting the robot at research applications. Founded in 2005, the Shenzhen, China-based company said it is developing “general-purpose robotics” and working toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).
LimX Dynamics recently earned recognition with the 2025 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for the multi-model locomotion design of its platform.
Rainbow Robotics unveils omnidirectional wheels, development kit for dual-arm robot
Rainbow Robotics, a Korean robotics developer that spun out of the Humanoid Robot Research Center of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), unveiled two new features for its RB-Y1 system at ICRA 2025. RB-Y1 is a semi-humanoid robot that features a torso and two arms with a new mecanum wheel option for the wheeled base.
The RB-Y1’s arms have seven degrees of freedom (DoF) each, a 6-DoF single leg, and a wheel-based mobile platform. Designed to support a wide range of development environments, the robot provides open application programming interfaces (APIs) and modular options.
Ambi Robotics sells out AmbiStack for 2025
Ambi Robotics Inc., a developer of robotic sorting and stacking systems, last week said it has sold out of its latest product, AmbiStack, for 2025. The company said this was due to strong demand from Fortune 500 shipping and logistics customers.
This news comes just a few months after Ambi introduced AmbiStack. The Berkeley, Calif.-based company said that since introducing the sorting and stacking system, it has seen significant interest from leading logistics companies.
