Harmonic Drive releases ultra lightweight, flat gearheads

By Miles Budimir | September 18, 2020

Harmonic Drive

Harmonic Drive has introduced its CSF-ULW ultra lightweight, flat gearhead series that features a newly engineered lightweight structure with an ultra-compact shape. The CSF-ULW is a housed zero backlash component gearset combined with a precision cross roller output bearing and flange.

The CSF-ULW is available in two sizes, with three reduction ratios per size. See the chart below for details. Harmonic Drive said the ULW series maintains the same performance standards as the popular CSF-2UH series.

Ideal for use on end-of-arm axes for small industrial and collaborative robots, the CSF-ULW is also well suited for general industrial machinery where weight is a critical factor. Features of the series include:

  • Zero Backlash
  • Accuracy <1 arc-min
  • High torsional stiffness
  • High efficiency
  • Smooth operation
  • Robust cross roller output bearing

Harmonic Drive keynoting RoboBusiness Direct

Harmonic Drive will deliver a keynote on October 15 at 2 PM Eastern as part of the ongoing RoboBusiness Direct series. Brian Coyne, VP Engineering at Harmonic Drive, will be discussing how advanced actuation can act as a robotics capabilities enabler.

Today’s innovative robot designs require actuators that are highly functional, featuring position sensing and an integrated servo drive, without sacrificing package size or torque density. Robot design engineers are continuing to work at an unprecedented pace, and they are constantly exploring ways to increase the diversity and potential of robots while accelerating time to market. In this informative session, Coyne will examine how an actuator’s design can be more of a significant enabler in robotic development.

RoboBusiness Direct is designed to impart to business and engineering professionals the information they need to identify market opportunities, successfully develop and deploy the next generation of commercial robotics systems, and accelerate their businesses.

You can find a listing of RoboBusiness Direct speakers and session topics, along with the dates and times of RoboBusiness Direct programs, HERE.
