Foxconn’s parent company Hon Hai Precision will fund $10 million for robotics and advanced manufacturing research at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

According to Scott Andes, a senior policy person at the Brookings Institute, an increasing number of technology companies are relocating manufacturing facilities to the U.S. because they want their product designers to be near at hand for quality control. Plus, a lot of companies are beginning to have a greater sense of the full cost of offshore production and finding that, overall, it's cheaper in the U.S.
