Epson adds GX-C Series with RC800A controller to its robot line

Epson Robots, which claimed to be the the world’s No. 1 SCARA robot manufacturer, today announced its new GX-C series, which uses the RC800A controller and SafeSense technology. The Los Alamitos, Calif.-based company said the GX4C, GX8C, GX10C and GX20C robots deliver high performance and flexibility in a compact footprint.

“With manufacturers striving for greater productivity and precision, the demand for advanced automation solutions is rapidly accelerating,” said Rick Brookshire, director of robotics at Epson America Inc. “Engineered to take on even the most complex assembly tasks, the new GX-C Series offers a compelling blend of high performance, intuitive operation, and proven reliability — helping manufacturers drive efficiency and stay competitive in a fast-changing industry.”

Epson Robots said it has sold more than 150,000 SCARA and six-axis robots based on a common PC platform. The unit of Epson Group, led Japan-based Seiko Epson Corp., provides robots for precision assembly and material handling applications in multiple industries. They include aerospace, appliance, automotive, biotechnology, consumer product, electronics, food processing, medical device, pharmaceutical, plastics, semiconductor, and telecommunications.

GX-C Series is designed for ease of use

The GX-C Series offers multiple arm configurations for increased productivity and worker protection while minimizing machine footprint, according to Epson. It also features GYROPLUS vibration-reduction technology to help optimize workcell throughput with smooth motions and fast settling times.

Designed for ease of use, the series includes Epson RC+ 8.0, the latest version of the company’s software development platform. Additional GX-C Series features include:

  • High performance and flexibility: High throughput with max-rated payloads and multiple arm configurations to accomplish the most demanding assembly needs
  • Fast cycle times: High acceleration, smooth motion, and fast settling times can maximize throughput with proprietary GYROPLUS system, plus no ringing or overshoot, when operated within specifications
  • Ease of use: Epson asserted that its “intuitive and feature-packed” Epson RC+ development software offers a simple user interface, an integrated debugger, and an advanced 3D simulator
  • Designed for reliability: The GX-C is designed to handle workloads at fast speeds and high precision within a small footprint
  • Low total cost of ownership (TCO): The new SCARA robots include features to reduce support and installation costs: batteryless encoders, a built-in Ethernet cable, Epson RC+ software, and a rich suite of safety features
  • Accelerated development of workcell applications: These are fully integrated; optional solutions include vision guidance, parts feeding, force guidance, conveyer tracking and fieldbus; Epson RC+ Solutions Platform allows for seamless expansion of third-party solutions, benefiting developers and end users
  • Increased user interaction without sacrificing productivity: SafeSense includes standard and advanced safety features; with a proper risk assessment, it could help increase productivity and worker protection while minimizing machine footprint due to the reduction of physical barriers
  • Minimized the workcell space requirement with an optimized robot footprint: The new series has multiple mount and cable exit options; 250, 300, or 350 mm (9.8, 11.8, or 13.7 in.) reach available for the GX4C; 450, 550, or 650 mm (17.7, 21.6, or 25.5 in.) reach available for the GX8C; 650 or 850 mm (25.5 or 33.4 in.) reach available for the GX10C; 850 or 1,000 mm (33.4 or 39.3 in.) reach available for the GX20C
  • Built for demanding environments: Standard, Cleanroom (ISO 3)2 and electrostatic discharge (ESD), protected IP65, and standalone ESD models are available
  • Service and support: With four decades of automation experience, Epson said it provides automation support through its dedicated application and service teams

The GX4C, GX8C, GX10C and GX20C are now available through Epson Robots’ channel of distributor partners.

RC800A controller comes with SafeSense technology

Epson Robots said its RC800A robot controller is built to perform with industrial-rated safety features while optimizing runtime, recovery, and error handling. It offers increased power and energy savings compared with previous models and provides safety-rated speed and position monitoring.

When paired with proper risk assessment, this advanced technology enables human-robot interaction without a safety fence, the company claimed.

By eliminating the need for physical safety barriers, the RC800A can help reduce both the footprint and overall cost of robotic automation systems.

In addition, the controller can enhance productivity by enabling faster machine interaction for daily operations and maintenance. The controller also includes the Epson RC+ software to streamline program development and simplify automation tasks.

Epson to exhibit at Automate

Epson plans to demonstrate its systems at Booth 2818 Automate 2025 on May 12 to 15 in Detroit. Attendees can see the new GX-C Series, and partners will show the company’s high performance SCARA, six-axis, and other automated systems.

“We’re showcasing how Epson Robots combine ease of use, powerful performance and advanced features that support safe, dynamic interaction between people and automation,” said Scott Marsic, group product manager at Epson America.

“Through interactive demos and real-world applications, attendees will see how our solutions make high-performance automation more accessible,” he added. “Our recently introduced SafeSense technology also demonstrates how users can operate safely and efficiently alongside industrial robots across a wide range of industries and tasks.”

Attendees will have opportunities to attend educational presentations and consult with Epson’s expert application and service teams. They can also explore both open-base robots (CX12XL, LS20B, and N6) and enclosed systems (GX8 and VT6L with IF380) that highlight their versatility across industries. The workflows will include scanning of large components, movement of heavy payloads, part transfers between slots in a standing cubicle, a stacking challenge, and a pick-and-place demo.

Sessions will include “Beyond the Labor: Understanding Robot ROI from Production to Profits” on Wednesday, May 14 from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. EDT in Room 320 and “Where Will the Newest Breakthrough in Robots Come From? Where Have We Been and Where Are We Headed?” on May 14 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in Room 321.

Key partners at the show will include Lanco Integrated (Booth 1309), Addtronics (Booth 2210), Universal Machine and Engineering Corp. (Booth 5604), and igus Inc. (Booth 2613). They will show applications including inspection, pick-and-place operations, assembly, and motion plastics.
