Ecovacs DEEBOT DM85 Robot Vacuum Features Advanced Mopping System

By Steve Crowe | January 4, 2016

Ecovacs Robotics will be showing its latest robot vacuum, the DEEBOT DM85, at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Ecovacs, of course, says this is the “most advanced DEEBOT yet” with an advanced system that can mop up, dry down, dust, vacuum and lift up waste matter.

The DM85 has two interchangeable suction options. Cleaning with the Main Brush option is the best choice for deep cleaning with the combination of the main brush, dual side brushes and strong suction. The Direct Suction option is the best choice for daily cleaning and cleaning up human and pet hair with the main brush removed – so hair can’t tangle around the brush.

The DM85 has a small integrated water reservoir that automatically dampens half of the smart clean cloth to remove stubborn dirt and debris. At only 4.01″ tall, the low profile DM85 robot vacuum cleans for up to 120 minutes per charge and automatically returns to the charging dock to recharge itself when it’s finished cleaning or the battery gets low.

As for what floors it can clean, the DM85 works on short pile carpet, hardwood, linoleum, tile, marble and more. It has four cleaning modes (Automatic, Intensive, Edge, Spot) and uses its intelligence to determine which mode is best for the floor type. It also has three groups of sensors that can detect a drop-off larger than 3.1. If the DM85 senses a drop-off, a signal will be sent to its brain to reverse direction and select a new cleaning path, so the DM85 can clean up to and around stairs without the risk of falling.

Cleaning modes

Finally, the DM85 has 10 groups of sensors to detect objects in its path and navigate around them while cleaning. If the sensors detect an obstacle, the DM85 will slow down, change direction and select a new cleaning path. If the object is very low to the ground (1.5″ or smaller in height), DM85 may gently touch it with its mechanical cushion bumper rail before turning around.

“We have been able to create demand and expand the robotics category with the DM85,” says executive director of Ecovacs Robotics, Mike Hecht. “With its removable main agitator brush and advanced mopping system, it virtually floats on every surface to maximize cleaning in each area of the home for our consumers.”

Stair safety

The DEEBOT DM85 is available now for $499.99. It’ll also be on display at CES in booth 72545 inside the Robotics Marketplace.
