This is good or bad news, depending on your politics, but an AI platform that has correctly predicted the last three presidential elections says Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States.
Developed by Genic.ai founder Sanjiv Rai, MogIA analyzes 20 million data points from public forums such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in the US. Rai says MogIA calculates its results based on the level of engagement a candidate generates.
And Trump has the most engagement, by far, even topping President Barack Obama’s 2008 high by 25 percent.
“If Trump loses, it will defy the data trend for the first time in the last 12 years since Internet engagement began in full earnest,” Rai wrote in a report sent to CNBC.
Rai admits, however, that MogIA struggles to identify the tone of social media posts. If someone mentions Trump in a tweet, that doesn’t mean that person endorses the Republican nominee, of course. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long to see if the previous three predictions were flukes or if MogIA is a reliable AI platform to predict the future.
“If you look at the primaries, in the primaries, there were immense amounts of negative conversations that happen with regards to Trump,” Rai tells CNBC. “However, when these conversations started picking up pace, in the final days, it meant a huge game opening for Trump and he won the primaries with a good margin.”
MogIA’s prediction contradicts most political polls that show Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leading Trump by healthy margins.
