Digitization and robotics design to be the focus of RoboBusiness Direct presentation

By The Robot Report Staff | November 10, 2020

Digitization RoboBusiness Direct

By 2021, the intelligent automation market is expected to be $2.9 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 7% between 2020 and 2025. Manufacturers have benefited from the success of purpose-built robotics that automate specific tasks with higher reliability, fewer repetitive stress injuries, and lower costs. In today’s era of digitization, consumers and businesses are increasingly relying on automation to make their lives and operations easier, according to PTC.

However, innovators and engineers often struggle with real-time collaboration and the design process, including creating a working prototype that works in the physical world. These products also have to meet end-user and application requirements, as well as industry regulations.

In this session, PTC’s John McEleney, who has more than 30 years of product development and manufacturing experience, will share his insights on how to design and develop robots in today’s digital era. He will also share insights on topics including the following:

  • Digital transformation and its impact on product development
  • Challenges and solutions for design efficiency and collaboration
  • Case studies of creating products for the real world

About PTC’s John McEleney and digitization

Entrepreneur and industry luminary, John McEleney has spent his career transforming businesses, driving corporate strategy, and forecasting what’s next in product development and manufacturing. He understands the innovation challenges customers face in today’s hyper-connected world and helps them navigate digitization. McEleney is now the corporate vice president of strategy at PTC.

In 2012, McEleney launched Onshape — a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product development platform — which PTC acquired in 2019. Previously, McEleney was the CEO of CloudSwitch, a cloud enterprise software company acquired by Verizon, and the CEO of SolidWorks, which was acquired by Dassault Systèmes.

McEleney also serves as a director of Stratasys Inc., a publicly held 3D printing company. He holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester, a master of science in manufacturing systems engineering from Boston University, and an MBA from Northeastern University.
