Dexterity partners with Sanmina to scale Mech mobile manipulator

Dexterity Inc. yesterday announced a strategic partnership with Sanmina Corp., a developer of integrated manufacturing systems. Through this partnership, Dexterity will use Sanmina’s global production footprint and technology expertise to accelerate the commercialization of its artificial intelligence-driven robots.

“This partnership exemplifies Dexterity’s strategy of innovating where it matters and collaborating with best-in-class partners for scale,” stated Samir Menon, founder and CEO of Dexterity. “Sanmina’s proven expertise in manufacturing at scale enables us to focus on advancing our robotics and AI technologies. Building our Mechs here in California provides strategic advantages, from quicker iteration cycles to stronger oversight of quality and testing.”

Founded in 2017, Dexterity said it uses “physical AI” to give its full-stack systems human-like dexterity, freeing workers in logistics, warehousing, and supply chain operations from repetitive and strenuous tasks. The Redwood City, Calif.-based company was a 2024 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award honoree for its trailer-unloading system.

Earlier this year, Dexterity raised $95 million, bringing its total valuation to $1.65 billion.

Dexterity designs Mech ‘superhumanoid’

Dexterity first debuted Mech, its dual-armed mobile manipulator for truck unloading, in March 2025. The robot can navigate complex industrial sites and lift more than 60 lb. (27.2 kg) per arm. The company called the robot an industrial “superhumanoid.”

With four independently steerable wheels, Mech can navigate autonomously to the most physically demanding tasks and immediately begin lifting, loading, packing, palletizing, building, and more, with the press of a button.

Dexterity is no stranger to dual-armed technology. Its previous robot, DexR, is a two-armed system for unloading boxes from trailers and containers at the loading dock. The robot uses machine vision, force sensing, and integrated motion planning to pick up a range of items, from stiff cardboard to soft plastic.

Sanmina brings product introduction expertise

Dexterity said the collaboration will scale its ability to deliver Mech to enterprise customers. During the initial production phase, Sanmina and Dexterity plan to establish manufacturing capacity to meet growing global demand across parcel, ground logistics, e-commerce, retail, and air cargo sectors.

In addition, the Mech assembly and rigorous testing processes will take place at Sanmina’s advanced manufacturing facilities in California, tapping into a highly skilled local workforce. Dexterity said this also reflects its commitment to domestic production.

Sanmina brings expertise in new product introduction (NPI), global supply chain, world-class quality control, and manufacturing, noted Dexterity.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Dexterity, a company pushing the boundaries of AI-driven robotics,” said Hari Pillai, president of the technology components group at Sanmina. “Our comprehensive manufacturing solutions and skilled workforce perfectly complement Dexterity’s innovations, enabling us to meet rapidly growing demand while ensuring superior quality and performance.”
