Two established robot providers are teaming up. Comau SpA and OMRON Robotics yesterday said they have agreed to jointly accelerate the adoption of industrial automation for manufacturer worldwide.
The strategic collaboration will focus on high-growth sectors including electronics, semiconductors, medical manufacturing, and light industrial intralogistics. The companies said these markets are continuing to experience strong demand for flexible, easily deployable automation.
“Through this collaboration, we are bringing together two complementary portfolios with a shared focus on customer success,” stated Olivier Welker, CEO of OMRON Robotics. “By aligning our expertise in robotics, applications, advanced control, and intelligent automation technologies, we can help manufacturers respond faster to changing market demands. Together, this new collaboration will allow us to deliver more flexible, connected, and sustainable production systems that support long-term growth for our customers.”
OMRON Robotics, part of Omron’s Industrial Automation Business, provides systems for modern manufacturing and material handling applications. The Pleasanton, Calif.-based company offers a broad portfolio of industrial, collaborative, and mobile robots.
OMRON said its advanced software and intuitive programming platforms enable faster deployment, easy integration, and scalable automation across diverse manufacturing environments. The company last month expanded the mast configuration options for its OL-450S autonomous mobile robot (AMR).
Partners respond to manufacturing demand
The partners said they are responding to rising customer needs for scalable and adaptable automation that integrates easily into both existing production lines and next-generation manufacturing environments. Comau and OMRON said their complementary portfolios, technological capabilities, and business models provide a broader and more accessible offering for global customers.

OMRON and Comau said they plan to integrate robotics hardware, advanced control technologies, and software-driven automation. Their stated goal is to unlock new levels of operational efficiency, flexibility, and performance for diverse manufacturing customers around the world. The partners also said they are considering future joint initiatives.

Comau’s portfolio includes automation for vehicle manufacturing, with a strong presence in e-mobility, as well as cutting-edge robotics and digital systems for industries such as shipbuilding, food and beverage, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energies. The Turin, Italy-based company also offers project management and consultancy services and has an internationally recognized training academy.
At MODEX last month, Comau showed its robots integrated with software from Automha SpA, a Bergamo, Italy-based unit acquired last year that specializes in global intralogistics and warehousing automation. Comau said it is enabling companies of all sizes to unlock the full potential of automation, robotics, and digital technologies – and to increase their efficiency, flexibility, and competitiveness in rapidly growing markets.
Automha develops intelligent, high-performance automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) to optimize efficiency and reliability across diverse industries. Comau and Automha said they have an international network with eight innovation centers and 14 production facilities in 12 countries, with more than 4,000 employees.
Last week, automotive technology supplier Aptiv PLC said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Comau. The Dublin, Ireland-based company will integrate its Wind River edge platforms and PULSE sensor and high-performance interconnect systems with Comau’s logistics automation.
“Through our work with Comau, we aim to combine Aptiv’s advanced perception, compute, and software solutions with Comau’s deep expertise in robotics and large-scale industrial deployment,” said Jay Bellissimo, senior vice president and president for intelligent systems, software, and services at Aptiv.
He said that Aptiv and Comau plan “to help customers build smarter, safer automation without the cost and complexity that has historically slowed adoption.”
