Just how smart is artificial intelligence (AI)? We’ll get a good indication this weekend after Super Bowl XLIX.

Microsoft’s Cortana AI has picked the New England Patriots to beat the Seattle Seahawks in the Big Game. Microsoft is based in Redmond, Wash., so either Cortana is very smart or very bold picking against it’s own team.

Cortana is the Windows Phone equivalent of Apple’s Siri. According to Geek Wire, when asked the question “What do you think about the Seattle Seahawks?” Cortana replies, “It’s hard to say, but if I were a bettin’ AI, I wouldn’t put my money on the Seattle Seahawks right now.”

Cortana has to be right, no? This Patriots fan certainly hopes so. I mean, Microsoft founder Bill Gates said earlier this week that we should all be concerned about AI. And Bill Gates is never wrong.
