Bosch Rexroth and Geek+ partner on mobile robot development

By The Robot Report Staff | March 30, 2020

Geekplus Technology Co. and Bosch Rexroth AG last week said that they are jointly developing software and hardware for robots serving the global logistics industry. Germany-based Bosch Rexroth is a leading supplier of drive and control technologies, and China-based Geek+ is a leading provider of autonomous mobile robots.

Geek+ has grown rapidly and expanded into new geographic regions. According to market research consultancy Interact Analysis, Geek+ is the No. 1 supplier of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in the world, with 10% market share. The company said it delivers robotics products to some of the world’s leading brands, including Nike, Decathlon, Walmart, and Dell.

Founded in 2015, Geek+ said it has completed more than 200 projects and deployed more than 10,000 robots across four continents. It has raised $150 million in Series C1 funding last summer and opened a San Diego office last month.

Bosch Rexroth said its products ensure efficient, powerful and safe movement in machines and systems of any size. Its Intralogistics Robotics project provides modular software and hardware components for a wide range of automated guided vehicle (AGV) manufacturers. The company added that it combines start-up level flexibility with intensive research and application knowledge about autonomous driving within the Bosch Group.

Geek+ and Bosch Rexroth plan to better serve logistics customers

The companies said their partnership will advance the performance and intelligence of AMRs. It is intended to create value-added solutions for Geek+ customers to improve their own logistics operations.

“Geek+ is committed to working with exceptional technology and supply chain companies to create a strong technological and industrial ecosystem and jointly form an intelligent and agile supply chain,” said Yong Zheng, founder and CEO at Geek+. “We are very pleased to cooperate with Bosch Rexroth to develop the most cutting edge mobile robotics and smart logistics technologies and deliver even more value to our current and future customers.”

“For instance, the Locator, a localization software for the reliable positioning and orientation of mobile robots, offers maximum flexibility and an outstanding usability,” said Jörg Heckel, project director for Intralogistics Robotics at Bosch Rexroth. “Geek+ has presented a flexible, professional, and collaborative mindset to meet the fast growing demands of automation projects. We are looking forward to shape a dynamic robotics market together.”

With the ever-changing marketplace, companies are facing rising challenges on efficiency and flexibility, especially in the increasingly complex world of production and logistics. Geek+ said it will continue to work closely with its partners to introduce more integrated smart logistics solutions. The company added that its systems will enable its customers worldwide to respond quickly to market demand and drive sustainable business growth.
