Ati Motors yesterday launched its Sherpa Mecha dual-armed mobile manipulator for manufacturing applications. Rather than strictly imitating human form, the new robot focuses on delivering high-performance functionality tailored to real-world industrial needs.
“We’re solving real manufacturing needs across the world,” stated Saurabh Chandra, founder and CEO of Ati Motors. “We’re going beyond the robot to make sure the technology does more for you and fits into the application you need. Mecha is now the next step: incorporating deeper into our customers’ ecosystems to assist with information flow, automation, and integration. Automation has moved outside the box.”
As a reliable, tool-forward industrial superworker, Ati Motors said Sherpa Mecha never tires, maintains constant focus, tends machines, and transports heavy bins and parts for inspection. Currently, innovators are drawing tools for Sherpa Mecha and expanding on the base to integrate into their specific applications.
Founded in 2017, Ati Motors has developed autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) with artificial intelligence. Inspired by self-driving cars, the Rochester Hills, Minn.-based company has developed systems for manufacturing facilities. It serves global leaders in automotive, appliances, aerospace, and electronics sectors.
Sherpa Mecha features a ‘humanoid-inspired’ design
The Sherpa Mecha uses proven actuation systems and robust modular AI, according to Ati Motors. It developed the AMR with leading academic institutions, research labs, and industry partners.
With rigorous testing on active factory floors, the new robot has demonstrated reliable performance and easy integration with existing automation lines, said the company. It has research and development facilities in Bengaluru, India.
When designing the Sherpa Mecha, Ati said it wanted to step away from traditional approaches to designing humanoid robots focused on biomimicry. Instead, Sherpa Mecha features two arms, a head, and a wheeled base.
Ati Motors isn’t the only company going this route. Reflex Robotics, RoboForce, and Kinisi Robotics also offer dual-armed, wheeled mobile manipulators.
Ati first introduced the Mecha in July at its Product Day 2025. At the time, the robot was available for collaboration with partners to drive innovation in human-robot interaction. Now, the robot is commercially available.
Ati Motors offers extensive AMR portfolio
Ati Motors’ product line includes tugs, bin movers, pallet movers, and lifting platforms. Its portfolio includes:
- The Sherpa XT Lite is an autonomous trolley tugger that can handle up to 3,300 lb. (1,500 kg) in tugging capacity.
- The Sherpa Lite is a more nimble robot with a tray top that can handle up to 175 lb. (80 kg) on its tray.
- The Sherpa Pivot is a versatile material mover that can tug up to 1,100 lb. (500 kg).
- The Sherpa Lifter is a larger AMR that can lift up to 2,200 lb. (1,000 kg), according to Ati.
- The Sherpa Pallet Mover can efficiently and reliably handle pallets up to 2,200 lb. (1,000 kg).
- The Sherpa XT is an autonomous trolley tugger that can tug up to 10,000 lb. (4,600 kg).
