Design World’s 3000, ready to assist you
This last entry might betray our bias, but we stand by our conviction that the most lovable robot we know is our own Lovetronic 3000™ — the creation of editorial director Paul Heney last Halloween. Here he is hard at work on piece of editorial for robotictips.com.
Special equipment: Sense of humor, surfer-style circuit-board hair, and ability to author technical features.
Related working designs: Although companion and toy robots abound, we like to think than none compare to the Lovetronic 3000™ from Design World.
According to Lams, creator of National Love Your Robot Day, “There’s always been a certain sad dignity surrounding robots. The human tendency is to objectify robots and treat them as no more than the sum of their functions.” So, Lams called his first album Robot Love — available on iTunes and Amazon — to promote empathy towards robots and humans.
In a recent interview, Lams added that as robots become more like human beings, we’ll see the line between the two begin to blur. “That’s why empathy and love are so important. If we can’t show basic respect and dignity to artificial coworkers and partners, how will we express that dignity to another human being?”
“Loving the robots may just hold the key to loving ourselves,” Lams concluded.
