The 87th Academy Awards air live Sunday, February 22 at 7 PM EST. One of the six movies nominated for Best Animated Feature Film is Big Hero 6, a film about the bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.
Robots have been a staple in movies ever since the 1927 Fritz Lang film Metropolis, which featured the female android Maria as the first robot ever depicted in cinema.
Lang was well ahead of his time, and it’s been said George Lucas modeled C3PO after Maria because Metropolis was his favorite movie as a film student.
In anticipation of the Oscars and the Big Hero 6 nomination, we thought it’d be fun to look back at the 15 best robot movies the Robotics Trends team has ever seen. Now, here’s something to keep note of. We’re not including multiple movies from the Terminator, Transformers, and Star Wars franchises, there’s just too many of them, frankly.
Certainly you will disagree with some of the choices on the list but, again, these are the movies we’ve actually seen.
